About the role

We are looking for an Instrumentation Technician to join our operations team supporting National Gas infrastructure across the East region.

Based near Chelmsford Compressor Station, you will travel across Essex and the Thames Estuary maintaining instrumentation and control systems across compressor stations, AGIs and pipeline assets.

You will play a vital role in ensuring critical measurement, monitoring and control systems operate safely, accurately and reliably.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, calibrate and repair instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Diagnose faults on transmitters, analysers, control valves and associated systems.
  • Support commissioning and testing of instrumentation equipment.
  • Maintain asset records and calibration documentation.
  • Work safely under permit systems and manage isolations.
  • Support emergency response and operational activities.
  • Supervise contractors where required.
  • Participate in the standby rota once fully trained, typically one week in every four or five.
  • What you’ll bring

Essential

  • Proven instrumentation maintenance experience within an industrial or process environment.
  • Experience calibrating and fault-finding on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Good understanding of hazardous area working and safe systems of work.
  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent with a Level 3 qualification.
  • Full UK driving license.

Desirable

  • Comp Ex certification EX01–04.
  • Experience working with PLCs, SCADA or industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of pressure, flow, temperature and gas analysis instrumentation.
  • Experience within gas transmission, utilities or oil & gas.
  • Awareness of IEC 62443 cyber security standards.
  • Additional information

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
