About Us: Our client plays a crucial role in securing Britain's energy supply, operating the national gas network that keeps homes, businesses, and industry running. As an Operations Site Controller, you'll be the on-site lead for safe, efficient operations - ensuring critical national infrastructure continues to run smoothly. We're looking for a Gas Operations Cyber Technician to join our Operations team, supporting the security and resilience of the National Gas Transmission System. This isn't your typical IT or corporate cyber role. As a Gas Operations Cyber Technician, you'll be hands-on with the Operational Technology (OT) systems that keep the UK's gas infrastructure running. From control systems and industrial instruments to firewalls and managed switches, you'll work on the technology that powers Britain.

What you'll do:

  • Maintain and secure critical control systems and instruments across operational sites - from large Compressor Stations to smaller Above Ground Installations (AGIs)
  • Perform routine cyber maintenance and upgrades to keep systems resilient and compliant
  • Back up configurable OT devices to ensure business continuity
  • Manage access credentials and maintain accurate asset data
  • Support vulnerability management, malware sweeps, and incident investigations
  • Facilitate cyber assurance visits and assist with upgrade projects
  • Keep network drawings and asset records up to date
  • Participate in an on-call rota for key cyber functions
  • Collaborate with the central security team to ensure readiness and compliance

About you: You're a practical problem-solver with a methodical approach and a strong sense of ownership. You thrive in hands-on environments, working independently or as part of a team. Your attention to detail and analytical mindset will help you tackle challenges and keep critical systems running smoothly. If you're proactive, eager to learn, and committed to high standards, this role is for you.

Key requirements & experience:

  • BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in an instrumentation or electrical/electronic engineering or cyber security discipline
  • Time-served apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme) in an instrumentation or electrical/electronic engineering or cyber security discipline
  • Cyber security training - desirable
  • Experience in managing firewalls, managed switches etc. - desirable
  • Experience in taking operational technology backups - desirable
  • Experience in following maintenance work procedures for operational technology - desirable
  • Proven ability to complete maintenance on instrumentation, including organising, prioritising and scheduling of work assignments - desirable
  • Ability to analyse and solve problems relating to instrumentation and related disciplines - desirable
  • Demonstrate ability to correctly interpret engineering drawings - desirable
  • Full UK car driving licence

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.

What we offer:

  • Annual bonus of up to 6% based on personal and company performance
  • Company car if mileage requirements are met (10 thousand miles annually)
  • 26 days' holiday plus statutory holidays - option available to buy extra holiday days
  • Generous double-match pension scheme - for every £1 you put in, we'll add £2 (max company contribution 12%)
  • An optional flexible benefit scheme, including private healthcare, dental insurance, technology plans, travel insurance
  • Death in service 10x your basic salary
  • Financial protection if you're unable to work due to long term illness or injury
  • Excellent family friendly provisions - maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave
