Senior Nuclear Engineer – Safety & Control Location: Sheffield (with potential client site visits) Salary: up to £75,000 per annum (negotiable) Hours: Flexible working, core hours 10am-3pm and can start from 7am to suit. As a Senior Nuclear Engineer, you\’ll lead control system design and integration, mentor a growing team, and shape technical direction on high-impactprojects. Lead and approve system designs, architectures, and specifications in line with client requirements. Manage system integration to ensure compatibility, performance, and compliance. Oversee system testing, validation, and commissioning activities, including on client sites. Deliver high-quality technical documentation (requirements, design specifications, test plans, operator manuals, etc.). Translate client requirements into functional and non-functional specifications, ensuring compliance with standards. Act as a technical lead in discussions, identifying and resolving engineering challenges. Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and efficiency across projects. Mentor and coach team members, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment. Contribute to bid processes, providing technical sign-off and accurate estimates. Maintain strong client relationships through technical leadership in meetings and reviews. Collaborate with software, hardware, workshop, and project management teams to ensure successful project outcomes. Report progress, successes, risks, and recovery plans to stakeholders. Candidate Requirements Experience & Knowledge At least 5 years\’ experience in systems engineering, preferably in highly regulated industries. Proficiency in relevant software packages (e.g., SCADA, PLC, HMI systems). Strong background in systems engineering principles and methodologies. Hands-on experience with system integration tools and processes. Familiarity with quality management systems, standards, and procedures. Exposure to software development and deployment in industrial environments. Experience working on client sites. Skills & Abilities Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation). Ability to provide technical input into bid processes, including accurate time estimation. Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to mentor, guide, and inspire colleagues.
