Key Responsibilities
- Inspecting, servicing, and repairing company fleet vehicles to Department of Transport standards.
- Diagnosing faults and rectifying reported driver defects.
- Carrying out routine maintenance and corrective repairs on commercial vehicles.
- Road testing vehicles where necessary to confirm repairs or identify faults.
- Taking vehicles for MOT testing or to specialist workshops when required.
- Collecting vehicle parts when deliveries cannot be arranged.
- Assisting with repairs and maintenance on forklifts and other associated equipment when needed.
- Completing all relevant service and maintenance documentation accurately.
- Cleaning vehicles and parts to enable repairs to be carried out effectively.
- Attending vehicle breakdowns on-site and off-site when required.
- Providing ad-hoc support and cover for the workshop supervisor when necessary.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a vehicle workshop or commercial vehicle maintenance environment is essential.
- City & Guilds in Motor Vehicle Engineering or a recognised equivalent qualification.
- Experience gained through a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent training.
- Competent in vehicle diagnostics and fault finding.
- Good understanding of vehicle servicing, maintenance, and repair procedures.
- Understanding of Department of Transport operating requirements.
- LGV licence is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of bulk pressure systems is desirable but not essential.
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
