ROLE PURPOSE The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day Health & Safety function across all Echo House buildings, ensuring the business operates safely, legally and professionally across all manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, installation and office environments. Working closely with Directors, Heads of Departments and Managers, the role will develop practical safety solutions that enable the business to deliver exceptional work without compromising the wellbeing of our people, contractors or clients. The Health & Safety Manager will foster a culture where safety is viewed as an integral part of operational excellence rather than a standalone compliance activity, ensuring managers throughout the business take ownership of safe working practices within their own teams.

CORE AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Health & Safety Leadership Lead the company’s day-to-day Health & Safety function. Contribute to the Company’s CSR strategy and Culture. Act as the principal source of professional Health & Safety advice across the business. Promote a proactive and positive safety culture that encourages engagement, accountability and continuous improvement. Build strong working relationships with managers, supporting them to take ownership of Health & Safety within their departments. Support the development of departmental Health & Safety Champions to strengthen local ownership and communication.
  • Health and Safety Management Systems Develop, implement and continuously improve the company’s Health & Safety management systems to ensure compliance with legislation and recognised best practice. This includes responsibility for: Health & Safety policies and procedures, Risk assessments, Safe systems of work, COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, RAMS, Permit-to-work systems (where applicable), Health & Safety documentation and records, Other related CSR objectives and responsibilities such as Waste disposal, noise reduction and environmental health. Ensure all documentation remains accurate, practical, current and effectively implemented across the business.
  • Manufacturing, Production and Workshop Safety Work in partnership with Production, Fabrication and Workshop leaders to ensure manufacturing activities are planned and delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with legal requirements and company standards. This includes oversight of Health & Safety arrangements relating to: Joinery, CNC machinery, Metal fabrication, Acrylic fabrication, Spray operations, Print production, Finishing Machinery operation and maintenance, Hazardous substances, Manual handling. Identify opportunities to reduce operational risk while supporting efficient production and maintaining product quality.
  • Warehouse, Logistics and Installation Safety Lead Health & Safety planning and oversight across warehousing, logistics and installation activities. Responsibilities include: Warehouse operations, Vehicle and fleet safety, Loading and unloading operations, UK installation projects, International installations, Contractor management, Temporary work locations, Site-specific risk assessments, Installation RAMS. Ensure appropriate controls are established to protect employees, contractors, clients and members of the public.
  • Incident and Risk Management Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and effective corrective actions. Maintain oversight of organisational risk by: Monitoring incident trends, Maintaining risk registers, Tracking corrective actions, Identifying emerging risks, Producing regular management reports and recommendations. Support the business in proactively reducing risk rather than simply responding to incidents.
  • Audit, Inspection & Assurance Develop and deliver a structured programme of inspections and internal audits across all operational areas. Work with department managers to: Verify compliance with company standards, Identify opportunities for improvement, Monitor completion of corrective actions, Prepare for external audits including CSR and Environmental audits, Support the maintenance of ISO management systems where applicable.
  • Training and Competence Work collaboratively with HR and operational managers to ensure employees have the knowledge, training and competence required to undertake their work safely. Responsibilities include: Identifying Health & Safety training requirements, Supporting induction programmes, Delivering or coordinating Health & Safety training, Monitoring mandatory training compliance, Coaching managers in their Health & Safety responsibilities.
  • CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT Identify opportunities to strengthen Health & Safety performance across the organisation through improved systems, behaviours and operational practices. Encourage innovation and practical problem solving that improves both safety and operational performance. Support the ongoing development of a culture where Health & Safety is embedded into everyday decision-making across the business.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES Success in this role will be demonstrated through: Strong legal and regulatory compliance, Positive internal and external audit outcomes, Reduction in accidents, incidents and near misses, Timely completion of corrective actions, High levels of mandatory training compliance, Increased management ownership of Health & Safety, Continuous improvement in behavioural safety across the organisation, Positive engagement and confidence from employees.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in a Health & Safety leadership role within manufacturing, production, logistics or a similarly complex operational environment
  • Excellent knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice
  • Experience developing and implementing Health & Safety management systems
  • Experience undertaking incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Experience preparing and reviewing risk assessments and RAMS
  • Excellent communication, influencing and coaching skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with managers and frontline teams
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Health & Safety reporting systems

Desirable

  • Chartered or Graduate Membership of IOSH
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and integrated management systems
  • Experience within manufacturing, creative production, construction, retail fit-out or installation environments
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations
