Echelon Engineers is recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of an established materials handling equipment manufacturer in East Midlands THE ROLE Take materials handling equipment from customer requirement to manufacturing release, covering new product development and custom-engineered projects. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Produce 3D models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings for conveyor systems and associated structures. * Develop existing product ranges and contribute to new product development through to production. * Carry out engineering calculations: drives, belt tension, bearings, structural loading and stability. * Specify bought-out components and design for manufacture across fabrication, sheet metal and machined parts. * Adapt standard products to customer sites and support sales with layouts and concept designs. * Ensure compliance with machinery safety standards (BS EN ISO 12100, BS EN 619, ISO 13849) and support UKCA/CE technical files. * Maintain BOMs and revision control, and resolve production and field issues. ESSENTIAL * HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering (or apprenticeship equivalent). * Mechanical design experience in machine-building, materials handling or similar. * Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Inventor or similar) and drawings to BS 8888. * Experience with fabricated, sheet metal and machined components. * Working knowledge of machinery safety and UKCA/CE marking. * Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel occasionally. DESIRABLE * Conveyor, intralogistics or materials handling equipment experience. * FEA, PDM/ERP, or hydraulics/pneumatics/controls knowledge. * Working towards IEng/CEng.
