Echelon Engineers is recruiting on behalf of a specialist engineering consultancy delivering practical engineering solutions to the process industries. Their work spans design studies and equipment upgrades through to complete turnkey projects, supporting clients from concept to installation and commissioning.

Our client is looking for a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join their small specialist engineering team and develop into a key member of the business. This role suits someone looking to build on their existing engineering knowledge and gain hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of engineering projects.

Working alongside an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be involved in everything from client discussions and site surveys through to design, manufacture, installation and commissioning. As your skills develop, you will progressively take on greater responsibility and become a trusted contributor to project delivery.

The Role

  • Assisting in the design and development of bespoke mechanical equipment and engineering solutions
  • Producing and modifying engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor
  • Attending client sites to carry out surveys and take detailed measurements
  • Liaising directly with clients and participating in project discussions
  • Supporting specification development, technical documentation and project delivery
  • Assisting with installation, commissioning and testing activities

About You

  • Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (minimum HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent; degree desirable)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to work directly with clients
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Inventor highly advantageous
  • A practical, hands-on approach and a genuine desire to learn and develop
