An experienced Gardener is sought at a stunning family-run estate in Banffshire, Scotland on a full time and permanent basis. Set within the picturesque Deveron Valley, this 700-acre private estate features extensive formal gardens, manicured lawns, wildflower meadows, established woodland, a private residence and holiday cottages. The estate offers fishing on the River Deveron and clay pigeon shooting, creating a diverse rural environment. While the grounds and walled garden are not open to the public, they are enjoyed by holiday guests staying on the estate.

This position is ideally suited to a passionate and experienced gardener seeking a long-term role within a unique private estate setting, with a strong interest in biodiversity, productive gardening, and collaborative teamwork. A competitive salary is offered, and temporary accommodation can be arranged if required.

SALARY: Circa £32,000 depending on experience
LOCATION: Banffshire, Scotland
Responsibilities:
  • Take a hands-on role in the day-to-day upkeep and seasonal development of the walled garden and glasshouses.
  • Grow organic vegetables, fruit, and cut flowers from seed to supply the main house and holiday cottages.
  • Propagate plants, cultivate perennials and shrubs, and support the ongoing development of the gardens.
  • Maintain and enhance historic rock gardens, meadows, and ponds.
  • Assist with the care and improvement of the holiday cottage gardens across the estate.
Qualifications and experience:
  • Strong horticultural knowledge and practical gardening experience.
  • Passion for plant care, garden maintenance, and sustainable growing practices.
  • Experience or qualifications in garden design, organic gardening, or permaculture would be advantageous.
  • Proactive team player with the ability and willingness to mentor student gardeners and junior grounds staff during seasonal placements.
  • High standards of attention to detail, good timekeeping, and a commitment to maintaining plants, tools, and equipment.

This role involves collaboration within a small, dedicated team to support development, enhancement, and meticulous maintenance of the estate’s grounds and gardens.
