A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a junior/trainee gardener looking to grow as a horticulturalist working closely with a knowledgeable Head Gardener on a beautiful private property, on a part-time (2 days/week – Tuesday and Thursday) basis near Bordon, Hampshire. The position is open to PAYE or Self‑employed where an hourly rate will be paid in line with the successful candidate’s experience.

This exciting vacancy would suit reliable candidates with good communication who have basic gardening experience looking to develop as a horticulturalist, currently studying a horticultural qualification attending college one day per week and seeking employment alongside their studies or recently qualified gardeners looking to gain practical experience.

The recently redeveloped 10‑acre gardens offer a rich and varied landscape, thoughtfully designed to delight throughout the seasons. At their heart is the property surrounded by a large walled garden, a flourishing orchard, various rose varieties, expansive lawns, and meticulously curated mixed beds and borders. A tranquil pond adds a serene focal point.

The role and responsibilities of the successful applicant will include both the finer horticultural aspects such as pruning, weeding, planting, training, growing, and propagation, as well as the general maintenance such as mowing, pest and disease control, and hedge cutting, ensuring the grounds and gardens are consistently well presented.

The role requires good communication and organisational skills, along with the ability to work in a collaborative and productive working relationship. The ideal candidate will have a base knowledge of gardening with the willingness to expand on their skillset and horticultural knowledge including obtaining tickets such as PA1/PA6 which will be supported by the client.

Applicants must be passionate about gardening and enjoy working to a high standard. Physical fitness and energy are essential as this is a hands‑on role.

HOURLY RATE: £12.50 – £15 per hour on PAYE (or £18 – £20 Self‑employed)
