An excellent opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced Head Gardener to lead a team of 3 on a beautiful private estate near Winchester, Hampshire. The welcoming family currently employ two gardeners and a general gardener/handyman, with whom the successful applicant will work. Built in the late 1700’s, the Grade II listed house sits within 45 acres of grounds, comprising approximately 10 acres of formal gardens and 35 acres of beautiful parkland.
The formal aspect of the garden includes expansive award-winning lawns, clipped hedges, a swimming pool in a walled garden, herbaceous borders, a productive walled kitchen garden, mixed beds/borders, ornamental shrubberies, young, mature and ancient specimen trees with woodland walks and an extensive Ha‑Ha.
Applicants for this position should:
- Have a minimum of RHS Level 2 and at least 5 years head gardener experience;
- Be confident in their plant knowledge;
- Prepare the annual budget and carefully manage and monitor expenditure and procurement;
- Have excellent attention to detail and be very organised;
- Be a motivational manager, energetic, hands on and lead by example;
- Hold all relevant certificates and expertise for sprays, plant knowledge, machinery and equipment, commensurate with a head garden position of this nature;
- Hold a full clean driving licence;
- Maintain an excellent level of physical fitness.
