A full time Head Gardener to manage and maintain the gardens and grounds of a country house on a private estate in Overton, Hampshire. Accommodation is available on site. Our client is looking for an experienced, trustworthy and enthusiastic person to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of the garden and wider estate. This is an excellent position for someone who wants to put their mark on a garden and establish and manage a new team of gardeners. The position will include developing and maintaining 18-acres of lawns, kitchen garden, wildflower meadows and a walled garden. The position also requires the candidate to cover wider estate management responsibilities such as security, machinery/infrastructure maintenance and administration. The position will develop quickly in line with the ongoing construction of the new country house.

  • Managing and leading a small team of gardeners
  • Managing the formal gardens
  • Cutting lawns
  • Pruning trees and shrubs
  • Border and bed management
  • Greenhouse management
  • Windblown tree management
  • Leaf clearance
  • Managing garden tools and equipment
  • Managing health and safety (risk assessment, COSHH and staff safety procedures)
  • Pest control
  • Security of grounds and buildings
  • Working with the client and agents on any other duties as may be required from time to time within the general scope of the post
  • Working as part of a wider country house team
