A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a knowledgeable and experienced gardener to join a beautiful private property on a part-time basis (2 days per week) near Bordon, Hampshire. The gardens extend to approximately 10 acres and have recently been redeveloped to create a diverse and seasonally interesting garden, centred around a large walled garden with an orchard, wide variety of roses, expansive lawns, mixed beds and borders, and a tranquil pond.
Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will take a lead role in the day-to-day maintenance and ongoing development of the gardens, while also overseeing a part-time junior gardener.
- This is a hands-on position that requires a strong practical skill set alongside the ability to coordinate and guide others.
- Responsibilities include planning and organising daily and seasonal tasks, setting clear priorities, and ensuring all horticultural work is carried out efficiently and to an exceptional standard.
- Strong organisational and communication skills are important, as is the ability to effectively manage, support, and work alongside the junior gardener to deliver the required outcomes.
- In addition to supervising and delegating routine maintenance, the successful candidate will be actively involved in all aspects of the garden’s upkeep, including propagation, the cultivation of fruit, berries, and vegetables, as well as the pruning and care of fruit trees and roses.
- A sound knowledge of plant health is essential, with the ability to accurately identify and treat a range of pests and diseases to maintain the overall vitality of the garden.
