An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen for a practical and proactive couple to join a beautiful private estate near Winchester, Hampshire. The property is set within established parkland with far-reaching views, and recent years have seen significant restoration and development of the gardens. Key features include a newly constructed flint Ha-ha, terraced lawns, York stone paving, yew hedging, a roomed and walled rose garden with climbers, and the planting of large box-head limes into a sunken garden.
Existing areas include a spring garden, camassia plantings, maturing trees, long grass with mown paths, and wildflower meadows which support orchids and other native species. Plans are in place to plant an orchard and new trees in the wider landscape, and the successful couple will be involved in these projects from the outset. There are also longer-term ambitions to continue shaping the gardens to reflect the elegance of a traditional Georgian estate with a gentle contemporary influence. The grounds include a swimming pool and tennis court, which will require general care and maintenance.
The Gardener role is hands-on and will involve all aspects of estate upkeep. Responsibilities include all aspects of grounds and estate maintenance such as mowing, strimming, spraying, hedge cutting, operating and maintaining garden machinery, and helping with basic property repairs. The gardening team currently includes one other experienced gardener, and the successful candidate will work collaboratively to uphold the overall presentation and high standards of the estate. Tasks include swimming pool and tennis court upkeep, car washing, and occasionally assisting external contractors. A good level of horticultural knowledge and confidence using machinery are important. While chainsaw certification is desirable, it is not essential. However, a full UK driving licence is required due to the rural location of the property.
The Housekeeper role is part-time, 25 hours per which is flexible and focused on maintaining the interior of the house to a high standard. Duties include regular cleaning, hoovering, laundry, ironing, and occasional cooking when required. The ideal candidate will be efficient, trustworthy, physically fit, and happy to help with dog-walking and other household tasks as needed. Discretion and a positive, can-do attitude are key.
Accommodation is provided in a well-presented two-bedroom property on the estate, with all bills included. The accommodation is suited to a couple and is not suitable for a family, though a well-behaved dog is welcome.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a loyal, capable couple seeking a long-term role on a beautiful and evolving private estate in rural Hampshire. The successful applicants will become part of a small, supportive team, contributing meaningfully to the development and care of the property while enjoying a peaceful and rewarding lifestyle in one of the most attractive areas of the country.
