An exciting opportunity has become available for an Assistant Gardener to join an incredible private estate that has gone through a monumental restoration of the buildings, gardens and grounds. The position is full time, permanent and is based in Surrey.

The newly designed 500-acre grounds, inspired by historic gardens lost in the 1960s, feature a range of carefully curated garden areas. Among them is the Forecourt, with formal parterre planting beds, neat hedges, and a central topiary yew, surrounded by precisely cut lawns. These beds offer year-round interest through regularly changed bulb and annual plant displays, requiring attentive maintenance. The formal gardens extend to 10 acres and have plenty going on with parkland, wildflower meadows, walled garden with vegetables, fruits and cut flowers, pool terrace, newly constructed glasshouse, Polytunnel and seasonal bedding. Other highlights include a seasonal woodland garden, a lake walk with terraced planting, cascade steps, a Japanese garden, and an arboretum woodland area intended for low maintenance.

Applicants for this position will possess either some previous professional experience in hands-on gardening or a suitable horticultural qualification. Applicants must be physically fit and competent in the operation of a range of garden machinery. The successful applicant will work under the guidance and supervision of the Head Gardener and within a team of eight but must also be able to work efficiently on their own as required.

This opportunity offers the potential to be put through any qualifications or tickets which are deemed suitable – it is essential that potential candidates will have a strong desire and ambition to pursue a career in estate gardening. The position is a 5-day working week. A full UK driving license is required due to the rural location of the property.

This is a great opportunity for an open minded, enthusiastic, hardworking, good communicator with a developing skill base looking for a supported role within an establishing garden and friendly team.
