Working under the direction of a Senior Gardener, you will support the upkeep of formal gardens, parkland, and landscaped areas, ensuring exceptional presentation standards across the estate. The Gardens and Parkland Team maintains a diverse and well-established landscape, including:

  • Front Park with ha-ha and ornamental lake with cascading water
  • Arboretum and specialist tree collections
  • Lady’s Walk and formal pathways
  • Upper Park (North and South)
  • Paddocks and wider parkland

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out general garden and estate maintenance across all areas
  • Maintain lawns and turf using pedestrian, ride-on, and tractor-mounted machinery
  • Assist with seasonal planting, pruning, and garden development
  • Undertake watering, weeding, fertilising, and plant care
  • Support turf management programmes including aeration, feeding, and pest/disease control
  • Maintain wildflower meadows, shrubs, and mature trees
  • Ensure high standards in all visible and high-traffic areas of the estate
  • Work collaboratively with the wider gardens team and assist in other areas when required

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a Gardener, Estate Gardener, or Grounds Maintenance Operative
  • Strong practical knowledge of lawn care and turf management
  • Experience working in private estates, gardens, or similar environments
  • Confident operating horticultural machinery (ride-on mowers, tractors, etc.)
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality presentation

Desirable Qualifications & Certifications

  • RHS Level 2 in Horticulture (or equivalent)
  • PA1 and PA6a spraying certificates
  • Chainsaw certification
  • Tractor operation experience

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Outdoor, physically demanding role in all weather conditions
  • Flexibility required, including occasional weekend work (time off in lieu provided)
