About the role
Ansvar, part of the Benefact Group, is looking for an Underwriting Team Leader to join our Brighton office. You will work with the Bespoke Team Underwriting Manager to deliver the business plan for schemes, making high‑level decisions and providing advice to enable the delivery of underwriting strategy, quality and performance. You will manage the day‑to‑day activities and performance of the Schemes team.
Responsibilities
- Manage the team to deliver on objectives, ensuring profitable growth and alignment with the Underwriting strategy and Ansvar Business Plan.
- Collaborate across the business to support the acquisition and implementation of new schemes, and oversee administration of existing schemes.
- Work with the Underwriting Manager on relationships to support scheme growth and profitability, including broker visits.
- Monitor and review systems and processes, and support initiatives to improve team capability and performance.
- Plan, prioritise and manage workflow to deliver outstanding service.
- Set and monitor targets (annual, weekly, daily) to maximise team performance.
- Manage team performance in line with the Underwriting Capability Framework, supporting development and ensuring appropriate stretch.
- Own a caseload of underwriting work as required by team needs.
- Provide coaching, training and feedback to the team.
- Conduct audits and provide coaching and training as appropriate.
- Deal effectively with escalations within the team and work with other underwriting teams as needed.
- Embed appropriate risk‑management frameworks within the team.
- Resolve escalated customer complaints in line with regulatory and company guidelines.
- Provide managerial support by acting flexibly across business areas to support customers.
Qualifications
- Commercial underwriting experience with significant trading and negotiation experience.
- Experience of effective stakeholder management within a commercial environment.
- Experience of analysing data and MI reporting.
- Confident and influential communicator capable of negotiating at all levels, internally and externally.
