Our client, a school based in South Cambridge, is looking for a part-time receptionist to join their team. The role is term-time only, Thursday and Friday, 8.00am – 4.30pm. The ideal candidate will have previous experience with working on a busy reception and with administration, preferably in a school. The receptionist will be responsible for running the reception desk and providing a range of administrative support services to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day running of the school.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing a friendly, professional and welcoming first point of contact to all students, parents, staff, professionals and visitors contacting or visiting the school.
  • Ensuring that the reception area, corridor and communal meeting rooms are tidy and present a positive image of the school to visitors.
  • Answering and directing all incoming phone calls.
  • Processing and distributing incoming post.
  • Maintaining student files and updating the admissions register.
  • Maintaining the attendance spreadsheet and making calls to parents/carers of students not known to be present from the morning register.
  • General administrative duties to support teaching staff.
  • Maintaining the general email account, responding to queries, and directing enquiries as required.
  • Helping to maintain general order in the school e.g. clearing lost property and tidying notice board.
  • Monitoring and updating the school’s electronic calendar.
  • Assisting with student first aid / welfare, including looking after unwell students and liaising with parents / staff.
  • Parent communications as needed.
  • Organising annual school photos.

The successful candidate will start in September 2025 and for the first week of employment the candidate will need to be available Monday-Friday for one week training with the Senior Receptionist.

Candidates will need to have the following skills and experience:

  • Previous administration and reception experience
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail; able to plan and prioritise own workload, multi-task and achieve deadlines.
  • Experience of answering, screening and effectively directing external telephone calls, professionally and calmly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Due to the location, you will need to have your own transport
