EC Markets is a globally recognised financial brokerage, providing advanced FX and CFD trading services. As the business grows, so does the volume and complexity of client data flowing through our Product and Technology systems. We're building out a Data Governance function within the Product team to keep client data accurate, well-organised and handled in line with UK GDPR — and this role is where that work happens day to day.

Role Purpose

Own and actively improve day-to-day data governance over client data — going beyond maintaining existing records to strengthen and evolve our data governance framework as the business grows. This includes keeping data inventories and records up to date, supporting data quality within our product systems, and helping the business handle client data in line with UK GDPR requirements. This is a hands-on, operational role rather than a regulatory leadership position, but it is not purely administrative either. You'll be expected to identify gaps and inefficiencies in how we currently govern client data and propose practical enhancements, working closely with Product, Engineering and Compliance colleagues. Anything needing specialist legal or regulatory judgement is escalated to the Data Protection Officer or Compliance team, while you own the ongoing upkeep and improvement of client data governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Data Management
    • Support the accuracy, completeness and quality of client data held across product and operational systems, including:
      • Running routine data quality checks and flagging inconsistencies
      • Supporting data cleansing and deduplication activities
      • Working with Product and Engineering to keep client data fields and structures fit for purpose
      • Assisting with client data onboarding checks for new features or systems
  • Data Governance Framework & Enhancement
    • Go beyond record-keeping to actively strengthen how EC Markets governs client data, including:
      • Reviewing and maintaining the data inventory and Information Asset Register, and identifying where they fall short of business needs
      • Improving data mapping and data flow documentation as new systems and processes are introduced
      • Proposing and helping implement refinements to data classification, retention and governance processes
      • Identifying gaps or efficiencies in the existing data governance framework and recommending practical improvements
      • Supporting the rollout of framework enhancements across Product and Engineering teams
  • GDPR & Privacy Support
    • Provide day-to-day support for privacy processes, under the direction of the Data Protection Officer / Compliance team:
      • Logging and coordinating responses to subject access requests
      • Tracking consent and retention records within product data
      • Supporting retention and deletion housekeeping in line with policy
      • Escalating any complex GDPR questions or potential issues to Compliance
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Maintaining data governance trackers, registers and simple dashboards
    • Producing regular data quality and governance status updates for the Product team
    • Supporting internal reviews and audits with accurate, up-to-date records
  • Cross-Functional Support
    • Acting as the day-to-day link between Product, Engineering and Compliance on client data matters
    • Flagging data governance considerations early in product changes and new features
    • Supporting colleagues with queries about how client data is structured, stored and used

Experience in a data governance, data analysis, data operations or similar role, ideally within financial services or a fintech environment. Track record of identifying gaps in a data governance process or framework and proposing practical, workable improvements — not just maintaining what already exists. Working knowledge of UK GDPR principles — lawful basis, consent, retention and subject access requests — at a practical, applied level. Experience working hands-on with client or customer data in an operational or product context. Good working knowledge of Excel and comfort working with data inventories, trackers or dashboards. Strong attention to detail and an organised, methodical approach to documentation. Clear communicator, comfortable working with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and confident proposing process changes to stakeholders. Exposure to data platforms such as Snowflake. Awareness of the wider FCA regulatory environment. Experience supporting subject access requests or privacy notice updates. An interest in developing further into a data governance or privacy specialism over time.

Location

Full-time in office @ 30 City Rd, London. Competitive salary and performance-based bonus. Discretionary bonus. Professional development and certification support. Opportunity to work within a growing global financial services organisation.
