About the Role
As Group Compliance Manager, you’ll lead EC’s compliance and risk agenda across the business. You will oversee regulatory frameworks, data protection, insurance, and operational compliance systems, ensuring a joined‑up, pragmatic approach that works in a fast‑paced, creative environment.
Working closely with senior stakeholders across the group, you embed compliance into day‑to‑day operations while supporting long‑term business objectives and international growth.
This role is part‑time (3‑4 days per week) and fully remote, with occasional flexibility for key in‑person engagement if required.

Experience & qualifications
- Proven experience in compliance, risk management or governance roles
- Strong understanding of UK regulatory frameworks and business compliance requirements
- Demonstrable experience managing or advising on IR35 / contractor compliance
- Experience with ISO standards and audits
- Working knowledge of GDPR and data protection requirements
- Experience managing insurance policies and claims processes
- Awareness of transport compliance and operator licence (O‑Licence) requirements (desirable – training can be provided)
Key responsibilities
- Compliance & Governance
- Lead and evolve group‑wide compliance frameworks, ensuring alignment with regulatory and legal requirements
- Oversee ISO standards and audits, ensuring systems are maintained and continuously improved
- Develop and maintain the central business risk register, ensuring risks are clearly understood and mitigated
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation across operating regions
- IR35 & Contractor Compliance
- Own and oversee IR35 processes and governance across the business
- Partner with People, Finance and Hiring Managers to ensure correct assessment and engagement of contractors
- Maintain clear policies, tools and guidance to support compliant hiring decisions
- Monitor and audit contractor arrangements to minimise risk
- Data Protection & Privacy
- Act as Data Protection Officer (DPO), or manage an external provider, depending on experience
- Ensure compliance with GDPR and ICO requirements
- Maintain and continuously improve data protection policies and organisational awareness
- Insurance & Risk Management
- Oversee group insurance policies, ensuring appropriate cover across activities and geographies
- Manage relationships with brokers and insurers
- Lead claims processes and ensure effective resolution
- Operational Compliance Oversight
- Provide governance across key operational compliance areas (e.g. licensing, regulatory requirements)
- Ensure all compliance records, audits and documentation are accurate and up to date
- Policy & Ethical Compliance
- Own and maintain a central policy register, ensuring all company policies are clearly documented, version‑controlled and regularly reviewed
- Work with business unit leads to schedule and deliver periodic policy reviews, ensuring policies remain up to date, practical and aligned to evolving regulatory and operational requirements
- Celebrate clear ownership of policies and oversee the rollout and communication of policy updates
- Maintain and evolve key ethical compliance frameworks, including anti‑bribery, corruption and whistleblowing
- Transport & Operator Licence (O‑Licence) Compliance
- Oversee EC’s operator licence compliance, ensuring all legal and regulatory requirements are understood, maintained and monitored
- Attend and contribute to transport compliance meetings, supporting the Transport Manager
- Ensure effective governance around driver records, vehicle compliance and transport documentation
- Partner cross‑functionally to embed transport compliance into broader operational and business practices
- Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement in compliance processes, systems and reporting
- Ensure compliance data and insights are accessible and support better decision‑making
- Partner with wider teams (including sustainability) on reporting requirements where needed
- Provide timely and accurate information to support tender submissions and RFP responses
- Non‑Conformance Reporting (NCR) & Continuous Improvement
- Evolve and embed a forward‑looking NCR approach that supports both compliance and continuous improvement across the business
- Create a collaborative framework for identifying, sharing and discussing non‑conformances, encouraging openness and accountability across teams
- Leverage NCR insights to identify trends, root causes and opportunities for improvement, positioning NCRs as a learning tool
- Partner with teams to agree and track meaningful corrective actions, ensuring clear ownership and effective closure of feedback loops
What you’ll achieve
- Build and embed a scalable, group‑wide compliance framework that supports business growth
- Establish a robust compliance framework that ensures all regulatory, legal and ISO requirements are met at a group level
- Provide expert oversight of IR35 and contractor compliance, protecting the business while enabling flexible resourcing
- Create and maintain a transparent, actionable risk register to support better decision‑making
- Ensure all mandatory training is delivered, tracked and optimised to keep our people safe and compliant
- Become a trusted partner to senior stakeholders, enabling compliant, confident delivery across all teams
Location & Salary
Remote first working pattern. Occasional requirement to come to our offices for key meetings or events. Part‑time role (3‑4 days per week) with core hours of 10 am – 4 pm minimum 3 days per week. Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 FTE, pro‑rata depending on working schedule.
