Purpose of Job

The Associate, Integrity Screening & Research, Advisory & Assurance is to be considered a ‘subject matter expert’ (SME) in their field, with deep understanding of market practice, related policies/rules and typical governance structures and practices across 1st, 2nd and 3rd lines of defence teams. The individual will work with teams across 1-3 lines of defence to mould future operational procedures that ensure adherence to related screening frameworks and policies (including Sanctions, PEPs and adverse media screening), where necessary, influencing opinion and outcomes to deliver an appropriate ‘risk based’ approach that adheres to the EBRD’s risk appetite.

The team directly interfaces with Banking origination and Portfolio (front office) teams throughout key stages of the pre and post signing lifecycle. The team is expected to deliver accurate and timely screening of parties across a pipeline/portfolio of names using a combination of structured and unstructured data sources. This core control activity is a key step in ensuring adherence to our Integrity Due Diligence Guidelines, supporting the Bank’s broader adherence to its established risk appetite.

The Associate will work with the senior members of the team, including the Associate Director (AD) and Principals to represent the Unit and, where necessary, influencing a range of stakeholders across 1st, 2nd and 3rd lines of defence on areas that require SME knowledge and insight to market practice. Whilst day-to-day they will be focused on providing SME support to the team, they will also be expected to support assurance activity, providing comfort that analysts are adhering to policy and framework requirements. The individual will be expected to drive and deliver improvement initiatives off the back of this assurance testing and, where necessary, working with compliance teams to determine approaches that are both compliant and operationally sustainable. Adopting a continuous improvement mindset will be important in enabling the function to be more sustainable into the future.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Responds to SME/technical queries in a prompt and timely manner. Communicate with relevant departments on projects (or related transactional activity) to ensure that the decision-makers are aware of the risks involved.
  • Operational Standards, Risk, Control & Governance: Provide SME knowledge with a view to building out a procedure/process library, acting as the ‘go to’ person for queries. Helping to drive a culture where team members are responsible for the quality of their output, ensuring adherence to established quality/assurance targets. Help drive the broader improvement of OSMs control environment by supporting the movement towards future state processes. Ensure that new processes and practices are delivered in line with quality standards, applicable policies and relevant legislation. Where necessary, identifying shortfalls in standards and help lead any required remediation activity. Responsible for developing best practice guidelines and, to the extent possible, driving a degree of standardisation across operational processes. Train newly hired colleagues around expected assurance standards and supervise their work to ensure high standards of work practices and objectives are met.
  • Continuous Improvement: Be a ‘team player’ in a team/department responsible for creating a ‘best in class’ operational function. Support the identification and implementation effort associated with driving improved efficiencies in OSM with a view to enhancing the overall service experience – timeliness, quality, engagement etc.
  • Service Management & Third Party Management: In delivering day-to-day operational activity, conform to established service levels and standards. Where necessary, work in a collaborative manner with other colleagues/teams involved in a hybrid service model.
  • Stakeholder Management: Works collaboratively with colleagues to facilitate outcomes that adhere to established risk/service levels. Positively influences others to help deliver a sustainable control environment. Be an ambassador for the screening/research function across other departments by delivering outstanding operational outcomes and adherence to expected standards.
