The Role involves being deployed as the complex weapon design lead within a Systems Engineering Delivery Advisory Team (SEDAT). The SEDAT works alongside MOD technical specialists to provide the MOD support to its technical strategy, define system and technical requirements and give guidance on existing technical de-risking activities that the team has underway.
- Top-Level Design: Establishing the coherent overall design of the missile system, from concept to detailed implementation.
- Requirements Definition: Specifying electrical, mechanical, and performance requirements for subsystems.
- Interface Management: Defining how different components (e.g., guidance, propulsion, warhead) connect and communicate.
- Trade-Off Analysis: Performing studies (e.g., cost vs. performance) to find balanced solutions.
- Verification & Validation: Developing strategies for testing and ensuring the missile meets its goals.
- System Modelling: Creating conceptual, solution, and physical models to represent the system.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working with electrical, mechanical, software, and test engineers, as well as suppliers.
Please note that all applicants must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of UK security clearance, typically Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
Skills & Experience:
- Graduate in a relevant engineering discipline, although equivalent experience/education would also be considered.
- Knowledge of MOD acquisition and lifecycle management processes.
- Significant experience in complex weapons systems design, including Airframe design, Guidance and Control, Propulsion, Seeker and Data Links.
- Familiarity with MOD standards, policies, and procedures relating to Weapon Design.
- Familiarity with relevant software tools and modelling techniques used in weapons engineering.
- Expertise in systems engineering, including development, integration, verification and validation and test and evaluation of complex weapons systems.
- Experience in managing safety‑critical systems.
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to liaise with military personnel, contractors, and other stakeholders.
