The Medical Director of the HOPES student Run Free Clinic (HOPES) will be responsible for the operation of the clinic to oversee the medical care of the patients seen at the clinic. In addition, the Medical Director will provide guidance to team members responsible for the coordination and integration of students, residents, faculty, other safety net clinics and partners to achieve goals and objectives of the HOPES clinic.
Responsibilities:
- Working with student leadership teams, develop necessary protocols for the patient care of an outpatient clinical setting including laboratory usage, electronic medical records, appropriate medication selection (consideration of cost) and other protocols as needed in the operation of a free clinical enterprise.
- Working with student leadership, Quality Improvement teams for HOPES and EVMS Risk Management develop program evaluation and progress reports for patient care as well as an EVMS educational venue.
- Incorporate new opportunities for additional community clinic partners in the Hampton Roads healthcare community to help care for uninsured patients.
- Serve as a liaison among academic institutions, non-profit organizations, state agencies and community members for groups who serve the underserved to advance the education of EVMS students and serve the underserved patients.
- Work with other faculty in improving educational opportunities concerning underserved populations and community engagement into medical student, resident and faculty training.
- Create opportunities to teach students, residents and faculty on how to use existing research, evidence, and agreed upon ethical considerations when approaching a community's health and present that research in a national conference setting such as the Society of Student Run Free Clinics and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
- Collaborate with all members of the EVMS community in a positive manner that is mission-focused and outcomes-oriented.
- Support and develop student, resident and faculty engagement in community health.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- M.D. degree, Residency certification and Board Certification in either Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
