An established accountancy practice based in the Central Scottish Borders is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Accountant / Accounts Practice Specialist to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong accountancy practice experience who enjoys working with a varied client base, including commercial businesses, agricultural clients, limited companies, partnerships, trusts and sole traders.
The role would suit someone who is confident preparing accounts, comfortable dealing directly with clients, and looking for a long-term opportunity within a supportive and well-established practice environment.
The Role
You will be responsible for preparing year-end accounts and supporting a varied portfolio of clients across different sectors. You will work closely with Managers and Partners, helping to deliver accurate, high-quality work while maintaining strong client relationships. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their workload and has a strong eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare year-end accounts for a range of commercial and agricultural clients
- Work with limited companies, partnerships, trusts and sole traders
- Liaise directly with clients to resolve queries and gather information
- Support Managers and Partners with wider accounting assignments
- Ensure work is completed in line with relevant legislation and internal quality standards
- Manage allocated work to a high standard and within agreed deadlines
- Build strong working relationships with clients and colleagues
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
- Strong experience preparing year-end accounts
- Good understanding of technical accounting standards
- Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, Farmplan, CCH or QuickBooks would be beneficial
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good analytical and problem-solving ability
- Confident using Microsoft Office
- AAT, ACCA, ICAEW or ICAS qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience
