A busy, well-established operator is looking for a Fleet Mechanic to join their team, based at their yard near Caerwent, Monmouthshire. You will be responsible for keeping a mixed fleet safe, compliant, and on the road through planned maintenance, inspections, diagnostics and repairs. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in doing the job properly, understands the importance of roadworthiness, and can work confidently both independently and as part of a workshop team.
The role
- You will carry out inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair across a fleet that may include cars, vans, trailers and/or plant equipment, ensuring everything meets UK legislation and DVSA standards and minimising downtime.
Key responsibilities
- Routine servicing, preventative maintenance and safety inspections
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults using diagnostic tools and manuals
- Repair/replace engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension and associated components
- Complete MOT-style pre-checks and ensure compliance with DVSA, Operator Licence and internal safety standards
- Maintain accurate records: maintenance logs, inspection sheets and job documentation
- Respond to breakdowns and carry out mobile/roadside repairs when required
- Support parts ordering, stock control and good workshop organisation
- Liaise with drivers and supervisors to prioritise repairs and maximise vehicle availability
- Maintain a clean, safe and compliant working environment
- Road-test vehicles to confirm repairs and safe operation
What we’re looking for
- NVQ/SVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Light Vehicle, Heavy Vehicle or Plant Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Proven experience as a mechanic/technician/fitter (automotive, HGV, PSV or plant)
- Strong understanding of UK roadworthiness, MOT standards and DVSA regulations
- Confident using diagnostic equipment and workshop tools
- Full UK driving licence essential (HGV Category C or D is a bonus)
- IRTEC, IMI or manufacturer certifications desirable (not essential)
