What You’ll Do
- As a Front End Application Engineer, you provide design assistance, value engineering, product and segment (Datacenter, Utilities, Renewables, Oil&Gas, Industries) specific application support to the Eaton MVPD (Medium Voltage Power Distribution), Projects, Orders and Quotation (POQ) department, Sales Country Organizations (SCO), Key Account Managers (KAMs), EPCs, Consulting engineers and Channel partners in the territory/market for electro‑technical installations and enhance the value generated for customers.
- Provide necessary safety precautions and calculations during FEED, quotation and pre‑order stage, in accordance with company guidelines and procedures, to reach an acceptable solution for complex technical issues for all parties involved.
- The Application Engineer can act as lead engineer for larger and complex projects.
- Understand the overall Data centre value chain and translate the requirements into solutions based on Eaton MVPD product (switchgear, Transformer, Modular) portfolio.
- Work on detailed designs focused on the mentioned products and also collaborate across different business units to stay in line with complete DC solutions.
- Determine, instruct and drive the technical quality and content of the quotation process.
- Read, interpret and agree on customer specifications in order to create a competitive Eaton solution including mechanical, electrical, safety and control systems, SCADA and PLC software applications.
- Understand MV switchgear and Transformer design requirements (Codes, application guides & regulations) such as IEC 62271‑1 (100, 200, 102), EU 548‑2014 (Ecodesign), IEC 60076 Power transformers and EN 50588 Medium Power Transformers, and support during the tendering stage the different customer requirements such as rating, system description, internal arc protection, core & coil characteristics, temperature protection, vibration insulation.
- Work proactively with the teams to establish relationships with lead electrical consulting engineers, end users and design‑build contractors to promote the use of Eaton products (focus on switchgear and Transformer with busway) and solutions in their specifications and projects.
- Develop pipeline through demand creation at influencers engaging on early designs on strategic DC accounts and framework agreements.
- Participate and understand current market requirements from customers to drive product technical features leading to future New Product Development (Involve in Gate 0) and evaluate risks in the segments.
- Lead technical evaluation, feasibility, clarification and execution of multiple projects in parallel while meeting requested return dates of the quotation engineer/project engineer.
- Analyse electrical and/or mechanical faults by performing calculations and advise customers about possible technical solutions with regard to complete (company‑own or competitive) systems, in close co‑operation with sales management to solve customer’s problems without endangering the company’s image or financial position.
- Advise on 3rd‑party or special equipment materials (material cost and labour/engineering efforts) to provide technical competitive solutions to quotation engineers.
- Write technical RFQs for non‑Eaton items that are part of a project and drive SCM for technically compliant bids.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
- Minimum 3‑5 years of experience in data centre domain / medium voltage power distribution.
Skills
- Architecture & Technical knowledge regarding MV switchgear (RMU and primary) and transformers (both liquid and dry type) as key focus and must have; exposure to LV, PSA including generators, packaged substations is nice to have.
- Experience in MV equipment installation & commissioning including and within RMU/Tx/LV modular rooms, with insights on MV cable connections & termination, LV cable and busway connections and testing – a nice to have skillset.
- Segment insights & application, electrical and mechanical engineering, calculation, studies and manufacturing methods.
- Insights on commercial aspects of projects.
- Strong skills to clearly present and convince customers around technical solutions focused on MVPD products.
- Ability to work within an international, culturally diverse and matrix‑based organisation.
- Utilise AutoCAD and Revit tools effectively to support design and technical documentation processes – a plus to have.
- Leadership attributes, creative thinking, customer‑centric approach, excellent communication.
- Ability to work with local and regional teams in a multicultural environment.
- Strong communication skills managing multiple resources with a result‑oriented mindset.
