Eaton Syalon have been retained to partner with a high-growth SME to appoint a Group Financial Controller into the UK team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in driving financial integrity, control, and performance across the business’s most complex operating entity. As Group Financial Controller, you will be at the heart of our UK operations, leading the finance function of a high-growth international engineering business.
You will take full accountability for the month-end close, statutory reporting, and financial compliance, ensuring all outputs are accurate, timely, and transparent to support Group-level decision-making. In this role, you will lead a talented finance team through a period of transformation, embedding robust processes and best-in-class use of financial systems while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
You will act as a trusted partner to operational, commercial, and project teams, providing clear insights into financial risks, opportunities, and project profitability. You will also play a pivotal role in shaping the efficiency and scalability of their finance systems, taking responsibility for the integrity of financial data and championing innovative, data-driven solutions. This is a senior leadership position where your expertise will directly influence the performance and growth of the business, giving you the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on a high-performing, international engineering organisation.
Key Responsibilities will include:- Financial Control, Compliance & Month-End Management
- Own the month-end close and all UK financial reporting
- Ensure integrity of all financial data, aligned with Group standards
- Strengthen internal controls, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance (UK GAAP/IFRS)
- Manage VAT submissions and support payroll CIS filings
- Lead the external audit process and liaise with auditors, tax advisors, and stakeholders
- Lead a high-performing finance team, fostering accountability and a culture of continuous improvement
- Act as a credible finance leader, supporting operational and commercial stakeholders
- Champion learning, cross-training, and succession planning
- Act as a trusted finance partner to operational, commercial, and project teams
- Provide clear updates to senior leadership, highlighting financial risks and opportunities
- Lead project profitability reporting and support commercial teams with accurate data
- Take ownership of financial outputs
- Lead system usage, process design, and continuous improvement
- Support the evolution of the Group’s finance systems landscape
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified with senior finance leadership experience
- Strong ERP and systems knowledge, with a deep understanding of data structures and integrations
- Experience of Sage Intacct would be an advantage
- Background in contract or project accounting within engineering, industrial, or construction sectors
- Expertise in cost control, WIP, accruals, earned value, and revenue recognition
- Proven ability to lead and inspire teams in fast-paced, multi-site environments
- Excellent interpersonal skills with confidence to challenge and support at all levels
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving change
