We’re now looking for a hungry, commercially minded National Account Manager to help grow our retail and wholesale customer base across premium, healthy and challenger‑brand environments. This is a brilliant step‑up opportunity for an ambitious Account Manager or junior NAM ready to take ownership of customer relationships and grow into a bigger commercial role with Proper.
The Person
This person will be ambitious, proactive and commercially curious, with the drive to step into their first NAM‑level role and make a real impact. They’ll love building strong customer relationships, be confident working with both retailers and wholesalers, and bring the energy, resilience and cultural fit to grow with the business.
The Role
As National Account Manager, you’ll support the growth of Proper across a mix of retail and wholesale customers, directly owning key account relationships and helping deliver strong commercial plans across premium, healthy and better‑for‑you channels. This is a hands‑on commercial role for someone with strong account management foundations, some P&L responsibility, and the appetite to take on more ownership as Proper continues to scale.
Responsibilities
- Account Management & Growth
- Own and develop relationships with selected retail and wholesale customers, building trust and spotting opportunities to grow Proper’s presence.
- Support customer plans across premium, healthy, natural and challenger‑brand environments, including customers such as Cotswold Fayre, Epicurium, CLF Distribution, Whole Foods, Planet Organic and garden centre channels.
- Work closely with senior commercial colleagues to deliver customer plans that drive distribution, visibility, rate of sale and profitable growth.
- Identify new opportunities across wholesale, premium retail and better‑for‑you channels.
- Commercial Delivery
- Deliver against agreed revenue, profit and distribution targets across your customer base.
- Manage promotional plans, pricing and trade investment with a clear commercial mindset.
- Build confidence in P&L ownership, understanding the levers that drive profitable account growth.
- Forecast accurately and work closely with supply, finance and internal teams to ensure smooth delivery for customers.
- Customer & Category Development
- Build deep, trusted partnerships with customer stakeholders across retailers and wholesalers.
- Use insight, customer knowledge and category data to support ranging, merchandising and activation opportunities.
- Champion Proper’s brands, sustainability and B Corp credentials in a way that lands well with premium and better‑for‑you customers.
- Collaboration & Ways of Working
- Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Category and Supply teams to deliver brilliant customer plans and activation.
- Bring energy, pace and accountability to customer conversations and internal projects.
- Stay close to market trends, competitor activity and opportunities across premium retail, wholesale and garden centre channel.
Requirements
- Experience as an Account Manager, NAE, Junior/Regional Account Manager within FMCG, ideally food and drink.
- Experience managing customer relationships across retailers and/or wholesalers, with exposure to key accounts.
- A strong commercial mindset, with some experience of P&L, trade spend, forecasting or promotional planning.
- Background in challenger food and drink brands, premium retail, wholesale, healthy, natural, organic or better‑for‑you sectors would be highly relevant.
- Experience with customers such as Cotswold Fayre, Epicurium, CLF Distribution, Whole Foods, Planet Organic, Hollies Farm Shop or garden centre channels would be a bonus.
- Ambitious, proactive and hungry to grow, with the confidence to step up and the humility to keep learning.
