The role involves seeking an experienced and talented Head of Finance and Risk with strong financial acumen, and the ability to translate complex themes into clear narratives, to contribute significantly to the strategic direction of the organisation. This role is ideal for a mid to senior career professional looking for a leadership role, keen to play a pivotal role in an increasingly vital and influential organisation.

The successful candidate will manage the organisation's finances; developing and maintaining financial models to support strategic decision-making, and providing high-quality financial data and analysis to senior management, along with having oversight across their internal risk processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Financial Management: Co-ordinate and drive the Budget process, monthly re-forecasting and reporting, analysis and planning to support decision making, preparing financial papers for the Risk and Audit committee and the Board of Trustees.
  • Financial Control and Risk Oversight: Maintaining control of financial systems, ensuring accuracy of transactions, overseeing Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, VAT, expenses, and payroll processes.
  • Financial Reporting and Cashflow Forecasting: Overseeing the annual audit, statutory reporting, and working with the team to understand performance drivers.
  • Governance: Liaising with auditors, maintaining records at Companies House, and contributing to the preparation of papers for Board meetings.
  • Treasury: Managing the organisation's investment strategy and maintaining key controls of third-party banking software.
  • Leadership and Personnel: Engaging in regular organisational meetings, communicating financial matters to the wider team, and taking a proactive approach to learning and professional development.
  • Other: Maintaining key professional administrative relationships and acting as a central organisational point for oversight on contracts.

Ideal candidate qualities include a passion for tackling the climate, nature and cost of living crises, integrity, a positive attitude, teamwork and leadership skills, strong communication abilities, project management skills, and strategic thinking.

Qualifications required include CIMA / ACCA / ACA qualification or equivalent, extensive knowledge of financial procedures, budgeting, forecasting and reporting, and familiarity with the requirements of Companies House and the Charity Commission.

Terms and conditions: Permanent contract with a salary of £65,000 - £74,000 (dependent on experience).
