In this Lead Software Engineer role, you provide technical leadership while remaining an active contributor to production software. You guide a small squad, shape architecture, and ensure delivery aligns with business priorities. You’ll coach engineers and drive high-quality, scalable cloud-native solutions in a fast-paced aviation tech environment. Responsibilities
- Design, build, test and operate software with hands-on contribution to production systems
- Lead squad technical delivery and align engineers on the right approach for timely delivery
- Coach and develop up to four engineers, conducting performance and development discussions
- Set and uphold engineering standards through code reviews, testing and operational ownership
- Improve CI/CD, automated testing, observability and production operations
- Foster continuous learning and experimentation within the squad
- Explore AI-assisted engineering tools to boost productivity
- Collaborate with Product Owners and stakeholders to deliver pragmatic solutions
Key requirements
- Strong commercial experience developing applications using .NET & JAVA
- Experience leading technical work while remaining hands-on
- Ability to mentor and support engineers while maintaining high delivery standards
- Experience designing, building and operating cloud-native solutions on AWS
- Experience with microservices, APIs and distributed systems
- Solid software engineering fundamentals and modern development environment experience
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and production support
- Broad technical knowledge with depth in at least one area
- Experience coaching or mentoring engineers
- Curiosity about AI-assisted engineering tools like Claude Code or Codex
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
