THE TEAM

The Health and Safety team is responsible for producing and implementing a robust health and safety management system and associated plans. We deliver a pragmatic and integrated approach to health and safety that engages our people, promotes a safe and responsible culture, and ensures everyone knows what’s right and wrong.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Senior Health and Safety Manager, the E&M Health and Safety Manager will work closely with the Engineering & Maintenance Management team and wider role holders. You will lead the delivery of key elements of the EACL health and safety plan and a specific E&M plan to support it.

You will provide hands‑on advice, guidance, support, mentorship, and management of E&M health and safety issues, ensuring compliance with the EACL Health and Safety Manual and Integrated Management System (IMS). You will deputise for the Senior Health and Safety Manager and give day‑to‑day direction to your direct reports.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the E&M health and safety competent person and main point of contact for advice and support
  • Leading the E&M health and safety engagement strategy to build positive working relationships
  • Coordinating and leading the Production Engineering Health & Safety meeting
  • Managing the E&M Noise Management and Vibration Control programme
  • Overseeing the E&M Fire Risk Assessment programme under IMS processes
  • Managing and maintaining the E&M health and safety risk assessment process
  • Owning the E&M health and safety audit schedule, conducting audits, and supporting resolution of findings
  • Leading the availability and currency of COSHH assessments and supporting control implementation
  • Providing health and safety support to E&M suppliers and managing overseas supplier relationships
  • Leading investigations into incidents and accidents to identify corrective actions and share learning
  • Supporting and delivering health and safety training including IOSH accredited courses
  • Reviewing and updating key health and safety documents, policies, and procedures under IMS
  • Leading the development and embedding of E&M health and safety risk assessments and risk registers
  • Deputising for the Senior Health and Safety Manager and providing guidance to the team
  • Supporting continuous improvement of health and safety standards and behaviours across the organisation

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Formal and recognised qualification in Health and Safety Management
  • Formal training qualification such as Level 3 or Train the Trainer
  • Formal qualification to undertake fire risk assessments
  • Excellent communication and diplomacy skills
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence outcomes within a risk framework
  • Good understanding of Microsoft applications
  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements
  • Proven experience in incident investigations
  • Experience developing or implementing health and safety management systems in medium to large businesses
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to apply skills effectively day‑to‑day
  • Aviation experience or experience in equivalent high‑risk industries, especially engineering and facilities
  • Experience in aircraft engineering operations in hangar or line environments
  • Training experience including delivery of IOSH or similar courses
  • CMIOSH membership

PRACTICALITIES

This full‑time role, working 40 hours per week will be based at Gatwick with regular travel to all other easyJet base locations when required.
