THE TEAM

Our Crew Optimisation team plays a key role in helping easyJet deliver safe, legal, robust and cost-effective flying programmes across our network. Working closely with Planning, Rostering, Operations, Technology teams and external suppliers, the team develops high-quality crew pairing and roster optimisation solutions that balance operational performance, commercial outcomes, compliance and crew lifestyle.

THE ROLE

As Senior Crew Optimisation Officer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of high-quality crew pairing and roster optimisation solutions. You will ensure outputs are cost-efficient, operationally robust and fully compliant with regulatory, contractual and company requirements. This is a technical specialist role within the Crew Optimisation team.

  • Lead the monthly production of crew pairings and roster optimiser solutions, ensuring outputs are safe, legal and cost-effective.
  • Take ownership of complex or high-impact pairing and roster scenarios, balancing operational and commercial outcomes.
  • Oversee and validate optimiser inputs, parameters and outputs, ensuring alignment with schedule, crew availability and planning assumptions.
  • Coordinate re-runs, scenario testing and solution refinement to improve output quality and resilience.
  • Conduct deep-dive analysis of pairing and roster performance, identifying trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide recommendations that enhance productivity, reduce cost and improve crew lifestyle balance, while considering fatigue and operational constraints.
  • Translate complex optimisation outputs into clear, actionable insight for stakeholders.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on pairing and roster optimisation tools, including systems such as IBS and Jeppesen.
  • Support the testing, validation and implementation of system enhancements, ensuring readiness for live production.
  • Work with external suppliers and internal technology teams to improve optimiser performance and outputs.
  • Contribute to the development of new solver strategies, parameters and optimisation approaches.
  • Act as a key point of contact for Crew Optimisation-related queries across Planning, Rostering and Operations teams.
  • Communicate optimisation decisions to senior stakeholders, including the rationale and trade-offs behind recommendations.
  • Ensure outputs comply with FTL regulations, industrial agreements and company policies.
  • Maintain and improve handover quality standards, production processes, controls and documentation.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives within pairing and roster production.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and support to Crew Optimisation Officers.
  • Support onboarding and capability development within the team.
  • Deputise for the Crew Optimisation Manager in meetings or decision‑making forums when required.

We’re looking for someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent analytical capability and a proactive approach to solving complex operational problems. You will be comfortable working with detail, confident influencing stakeholders and motivated by finding better ways to deliver safe, efficient and resilient solutions.

  • Significant experience in crew pairing and roster optimisation within an airline environment.
  • Strong knowledge of EASA FTL, fatigue risk management and crew planning constraints.
  • Experience using optimisation platforms such as IBS, Jeppesen or equivalent.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis capability.
  • Strong ability to interpret complex optimisation data and use it to support decision‑making.
  • Understanding of optimisation logic, parameters and solver behaviour.
  • A clear ownership and delivery focus, with the ability to manage priorities independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical detail into clear business insight.
  • A proactive, solution‑focused mindset and a strong interest in continuous improvement.
  • The ability to influence stakeholders across multiple teams.
  • A collaborative approach, with the confidence to support and guide others.
  • Emerging leadership capability and a willingness to contribute to team development.

PRACTICALITIES

This full‑time role will be based in Luton and will be 40 hours per week. We support hybrid working and we spend 60% of our time per month in the office.
