Job Description – Data Product Owner (15621)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Owner with expertise in data to join our Customer Experience, Service & Communications team on a permanent contract, based in Luton. (Hybrid Working)

The Data Product Owner will be responsible for managing the backlog and delivery of prioritised customer data products to meet business requirements. They will be the representative for the business and the customer, working with the technology and data engineering teams to build the solutions.

They will play a key role in continuing to promote our Agile delivery model where we bring together technical and subject matter specialists to deliver change at pace in an agile way. This role will also own the realisation of all business benefits associated with the capability, both commercially and from a customer engagement and satisfaction perspective.

What you’ll be doing

  • Oversee the entire Data Product development for this area and your business stakeholders, including the definition of the product road-map, with key stages in the build defined.
  • Ensure you are very engaged with business stakeholders and their priorities to determine the features that will be included in the Data Products, ensuring they are also aligned with our overarching customer strategy and priorities.
  • Support on RFPs and other processes to bring in new technologies.
  • Be an empowered decision maker for the Data Product team(s) and determine priorities for the team on a daily basis.
  • Ensure the appropriate governance is in place to manage the Data Products, ensuring that there is measurable value realisation through the implementation of your Product.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders and delivery management teams to jointly share learning, push standards and seek innovation, ensuring the product roadmap is flawlessly implemented in support of a continuously improving customer experience.
  • Be user-focused and keep the customer at the heart of everything you do, while having very strong commercial and customer experience awareness.
  • Collate and validate requirements from key stakeholders across the organisation, to ensure every need is gathered and translated into User Stories that can be understood by developers and data engineers.
  • Define and measure a clear set of metrics to track usage and performance of the product and ensure that business value is being realised.
  • Work with the Head of Customer Data Transformation and Head of Data and their teams to ensure consistency in standards and experience across the full product range and execution against the Customer Data Strategy.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • You will have previous experience delivering customer data products, preferably in the travel and hospitality sectors, or sectors with high levels of customer communications and direct and real-time customer engagement through customer apps such as banking and retail.
  • You will have a good technical knowledge of data ecosystems and platforms (CDPs such as mParticle, lakehouse architecture such as databricks, cloud architecture and capabilities such as AWS, CEPs such as Braze, and customer facing service centre technologies).
  • Have a good understanding of how data products are built and implemented with support from data engineers and analytical engineers who will build the product, it is important that you are able to influence and work collaboratively on all solutions.
  • Passionate about customer data and delivering customer and financial value at pace from customer data.
  • An understanding and experience of GDPR, PECR and other data regulations, ensuring what we deliver is compliant is essential.
  • A focused, analytical mind, the ability to connect the dots and identify the big picture.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with Agile delivery methodology.
  • Excellent relationship management, easily able to form effective cross-team working relationships to build, shape, optimise and deliver digital products.
  • Experience of setting a product strategy, defining desired outcomes and an ability to measure progress in those outcomes against a clear set of metrics.
  • A positive attitude in the face of uncertainty and an ability to take clear decisions in a fast-moving and pressurised environment.
  • Effective communicator, with outstanding quality of both written and oral presentations.
  • Be adaptable, curious, and up for a challenge!
