About the Role

We are recruiting for a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Islington to support Year 2 pupils with special educational needs (SEN).

The role focuses on delivering one‑to‑one and small group support, reinforcing the Read Write Inc® phonics programme, and helping pupils develop early reading, writing, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group SEN support within the Year 2 classroom and breakout spaces.
  • Deliver and reinforce Read Write Inc phonics sessions, adapting resources to meet individual targets.
  • Support pupils’ access to the wider curriculum through scaffolding, visual aids, and practical strategies.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using a calm and nurturing approach.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENDC, and external professionals.
  • Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times where required.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting primary‑aged children, ideally within Key Stage 1.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEN, including autism and/or speech and language needs.
  • A good understanding of inclusive classroom practice.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to model clear, accurate spoken English.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and to use initiative when appropriate.
  • Recognition of a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification and/or experience delivering Read Write Inc is advantageous but not essential.
