Are you skilled at clinical coordination and navigating service involvement for young people with SEND? Then look no further. We are delighted to advertise a permanent post for a Band 6 SEND Clinical Coordinator. This is an opportunity to join our small and friendly SEND team in the Neighborhood Public & Mental Health System at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. The post is based at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The post holder will provide support to the Clinical Lead for SEND in the day-to-day implementation of the Children and Families Act (2014) Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) reforms in order to improve the outcomes for children and young people aged 0-25 years.

Main duties of the job:

  • The post holder will support the EHC process to ensure timely and accurate health information is provided to support EHC needs assessments and annual reviews.
  • This will include reviewing the accuracy and quality of the health advice submitted for EHCP assessments and annual reviews against a quality assurance framework.
  • You will provide advice and support to clinical staff on completion of health advice documents.
  • The post holder will have good communication skills to provide effective co-ordination of advice and liaison with the SEN teams within the Local Authority.

Person Specification:

  • Registered Nurse / Registered Allied Health Professional / Registered Social Worker
  • Evidence of post-qualifying and continuing professional development
  • Reviewing case notes to identify and summarise clinical needs and support information gathering for EHCP assessment and annual reviews.
  • Self-directed learning, including reflective practice
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues and challenges facing children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of The Children and Families Act 2014, Working Together 2018
  • Knowledge of safeguarding issues with children and young people with SEN
  • Evidence of good communication skills, written and verbal, ensuring effective communication with service users and other professionals
  • Ability to build effective relationships and influence, persuade and negotiate with others
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to respond to unexpected demands
  • Ability to analyse documents and provide effective feedback
  • Ability to prioritise and organise work, underpinned by sound time management skills
  • Computer and IT skills
  • Commitment to improving the SEND System
  • Delivering training sessions
  • Ability to use framework to review/audit documents
  • Demonstrate ability to work flexibly when necessary
