About us:

We’re an established, innovation-focused R&D tax consultancy with clients across agriculture, farming, maritime, biotech, software, engineering, manufacturing, and sustainability to name a few. To support our continued growth, we’re seeking two experienced freelance consultants who thrive in a hybrid role combining client development and technical delivery.

Role Description

Working through your own PSC, you’ll take full ownership of client engagements from new business acquisition through to claim submission. We’ll support you with internal QC, marketing reach, and collaborative claim best practice, while you focus on generating opportunities, building trust, uncovering eligible activity, and preparing clear, defensible documentation.

About you:

  • Proven R&D advisory experience (min. 2 years), ideally within an agency or client-facing setting.
  • Confident communicator with the gravitas to manage client expectations from first contact.
  • Able to translate complex innovation into structured, claim-ready documentation.
  • Operate autonomously but collaboratively, with capacity to take on new clients.
  • Energetic, proactive, and committed to ethical, quality-focused delivery.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and onboard prospective clients through business development activities, referrals, partners, including professional networks, outreach, or warm leads.
  • Facilitate an engagement agreement with the client.
  • Conduct discovery meetings to assess R&D potential, aligned with BEIS/DSIT guidance and CTA 2009.
  • Evaluate technical/scientific eligibility across a wide range of industries.
  • Identify and apportion qualifying R&D costs in collaboration with client finance teams.
  • Support the writing of HMRC-compliant technical narratives and claim compilation (including AIF data).
  • Collaborate with our internal team for peer review, compliance & quality checks, and continuous improvement.
  • Stay up to date on relevant scheme changes, legislation, and risk areas.

What we offer you:

  • Attractive fee-share model tied to your project success.
  • Industry leading Referral Scheme
  • Autonomy over how, when, and where you work.
  • A supportive central team offering claim QC, claim pre-notification preparation and submission
  • AIF review/submission, and technical narrative writing/editorial resources.
  • Robust claim submission process via TaxCalc
  • Access to internal resources, industry updates, and sector-specific insights.
  • The opportunity to help shape standards in a maturing and compliance-driven industry.
