In a nutshell, as a Trainee CAD Technician in our Civil / Infrastructure team, you’ll be supporting engineers in designing infrastructure (roads, drainage, bridges, foundations, water systems, etc.) by creating CAD drawings, using design software, conducting site surveys, and managing project data. No previous engineering experience is required; this role involves on‑the‑job training with the opportunity for further, fully funded study.
Your Role: As a Trainee CAD Technician you will be provided full training on how to use CAD to support our Infrastructure Engineers, learning how to draw external works and plot drainage for large residential sites and various building types. The role may also involve developing CAD and other software skills to draw general arrangements in steel, concrete, timber and domestic including RC for medium to large structures. You will work closely with engineers and assist in the development of project documents.
We are looking for someone who is self‑motivated, organised and keen to learn about the built environment. Ideally you have the academic base (GCSEs at grade 4 to 9 with Maths, English & Science and/or associated relevant construction and design subjects) to enter a Level 3 or 4 working toward a Civil Engineering Technician apprenticeship. An apprenticeship is normally completed over 2.5 years with one day release to college.
