The Opportunity: Drive herd health, performance, and development as a hands‑on Herd Manager within a progressive organic system on an exciting journey of growth. We are seeking a skilled and driven Herd Manager to lead the management of an organic dairy herd based at our client’s estate in East Anglia. This is a hands‑on, responsible role for an experienced dairy professional who thrives on ownership and takes pride in delivering strong herd performance. You will oversee the day-to‑day operation of the herd, driving productivity, health, and welfare while maintaining the highest standards of milk quality and farm management. With a keen, instinctive understanding of cow health and behaviour, you will identify and address issues early, ensuring consistent outcomes and long‑term herd success. Working within the estate’s organic and regenerative farming framework, you will embrace progression and continuous improvement, actively contributing to ideas. Role Responsibilities:

  • Support the Farm Manager in the day‑to‑day management of the dairy herd to maximise productivity, efficiency, and overall performance.
  • Perform the milking routine, closely monitoring milk yield, quality and hygiene standards.
  • Plan and operate the grazing system to optimise pasture use and support herd production goals.
  • Monitor herd health and fertility, carrying out AI and routine hoof trimming as required.
  • Proactively identify signs of illness or injury, ensuring prompt treatment to maintain high welfare standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records relating to herd health, milk production, and breeding performance.
  • Work collaboratively within the team, supporting and mentoring staff when needed.
  • Uphold a clean, organised, and professional farm environment, ensuring daily practices align with sustainability objectives.

Skills you will need:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in dairy herd management.
  • Practical knowledge and experience of dairy farm duties e.g. heat detection, AI, foot trimming, calving.
  • An understanding and knowledge of cattle breeding.
  • Proven knowledge and practical experience of grass‑based dairy systems.
  • Strong attention to detail in monitoring herd health and recognising changes in cow behaviour.
  • A team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Driven and committed with a positive mindset, eager to embrace new business developments.
  • A confident decision maker with a proactive approach to resolving challenges.
  • A practical and strong work ethic, flexible to support the daily needs of a farming business.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and or interest in organic production.
