Eastman’s 40-hectare site in Newport, South Wales is a chemical manufacturing operation that employs approximately 180 personnel. About 40% of our site employees are involved in continuous 24-hour shift operations and are supported by a range of other service departments such as: maintenance, engineering, analytical laboratory, as well as: administrative, logistical, finance and IT support functions. We operate four main production plants, which use organic and/or inorganic processes. These manufacturing processes include pyrolysis, aqueous or anhydrous reactions, esterification, hydrogenation, distillation, and filtering. Other associated activities include Boiler-house and Effluent Treatment operations.
The Position
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated professional to join our HSE department as an Energy and Environmental Specialist. This onsite role is crucial in delivering energy and environmental regulation requirements and fostering continuous improvements.
The Role
In this role, you will contribute to our corporate goals of reducing Eastman’s scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions by one-third by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Flexibility and excellent communication skills are essential as you take on a variety of tasks, including:
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives through mechanisms such as risk and opportunities and the HSE plan, drive improvements, continually review and develop new energy and environmental plans.
- Keeping up to date with energy and environmental legislation, establishing the appropriate communication channels and completing the required updates.
- Representing the site to external bodies such as COMAH, NRW and the local community.
- Coordinating with NRW as required and submitting all required reporting, organising monitoring programs, and managing environmental aspects of COMAH, including inspections.
- Collaborating with corporate sustainability and environmental functions, ensuring all required information is submitted.
- Delivering the energy schemes the site participates in, for example UKETS, CCA and CHPQA.
- Monitoring and updating site management systems for energy and environmental requirements.
- Leading ISO14001 and 50001 processes on site.
- Providing energy support for the site, including assistance to the energy team and project teams.
- Offering environmental support to the site, including to project and production departments.
- Supporting other HSE functions as required.
The Person
The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree qualification, preferably in an energy and/or environmental field.
- An Environmental NEBOSH qualification, or equivalent, which would be advantageous.
