As Assistant Head Kitchen Porter, you will support the Head Kitchen Porter in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organisation and operational support across all back-of-house areas. Working closely with the Kitchen Porter team and chefs, you will help ensure the kitchen environment operates efficiently, safely and in line with company standards. This is a hands-on role that combines operational support with day-to-day supervision of the Kitchen Porter team. You will play an important part in ensuring the kitchen remains clean, organised and service-ready during both day-to-day operations and high-volume event periods.

Key Responsibilities

  • BOH Operations & Standards: Support the cleanliness and organisation of all kitchen and back-of-house areas, ensuring high standards are maintained at all times. You will help ensure a continuous supply of clean equipment during service and support the team in maintaining safe, organised and operationally ready workspaces.
  • Team Support & Supervision: Support the Head KP in supervising the Kitchen Porter team across shifts, helping to allocate tasks and maintain effective coverage during service. You will assist with onboarding, training and supporting team members while promoting a positive and professional working environment.
  • Service Support: Work closely with chefs and kitchen teams to support smooth day-to-day operations and service delivery. You will help ensure the Kitchen Porter team is aligned to operational demands and provide hands-on support during busy periods where required.
  • Operational Efficiency: Assist in ensuring equipment, utensils and workspaces are available, organised and ready for service. You will help identify operational challenges, support effective communication across kitchen areas and contribute to the smooth running of back-of-house operations.
  • Compliance & Safety: Support compliance with food safety, hygiene and health & safety standards across all BOH areas. You will assist with cleaning schedules, records and compliance checks while promoting safe working practices and leading by example.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work closely with the Head KP, Head Chef and wider kitchen team to support operational excellence. You will provide feedback on day-to-day operations, identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to maintaining high standards across the kitchen.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential:

  • Experience working in a Kitchen Porter or back-of-house environment.
  • Previous experience supervising, mentoring or supporting team members.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Good understanding of hygiene, cleaning and health & safety standards.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, team-focused approach.

Desirable:

  • Experience within large-scale, multi-outlet or event-led hospitality operations.
  • Experience supporting kitchen teams during high-volume service periods.
  • Knowledge of cleaning systems, schedules and BOH best practice.
  • Experience assisting with training and onboarding new team members.
