The Department of Family Medicine at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Receptionist to join the team. Responsible for answering calls and scheduling appointments in a high volume. Ability to remain calm and perform duties efficiently under stress. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate ability to effectively communicate and interact with all age groups. Must have excellent customer service skills. Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.

Provide exceptional patient experience through organized front-office operations, financial guidance, and accurate medical record processing. This position ensures timely communication and supports revenue cycle functions to maintain clinic efficiency. Manage a high-volume, multi-line phone system with professionalism, accuracy, and strong judgment. Perform detailed triage within the full scope of the role, aiming for a “one-touch” experience by addressing requests fully and directing callers to the appropriate resource, reducing unnecessary transfers, preventing delays, and ensuring callers feel informed and supported.

Strong critical thinking to ensure accurate patient intake, efficient clinic flow, and a positive first impression. Verify insurance, collect required documentation, and maintain strict HIPAA compliance. Proactively resolve scheduling, eligibility, and workflow issues to prevent delays and support smooth clinical operations.
