POSITION SUMMARY
Support the Safety Manager in safety-related functions within the shipyards. Perform safety activities on Company property to evaluate, identify, and correct potential safety issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Comply with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies while performing duties.
- Inspect designated workplace areas.
- Assist in enforcing the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety equipment.
- Assist in the issuance and monitoring of hot work permits, confined space entries, and lockout/tag-out permits.
- Administer first aid as needed.
- Conduct Safety Orientation.
- Administer post-accident/near-miss drug tests as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus one year of safety experience in a manufacturing or construction environment desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, and OSHA regulations desired.
- Shipyard Competent Person Certification is required.
- Completion of First Aid and CPR training desired.
- Advanced computer skills, including Word and Excel; basic level of Outlook.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Company policies/practices, governmental regulations.
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Behavioral Attributes: Integrity, ethics, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety consciousness, and multitasking.
- Will maintain confidentiality.
- Background check and valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Standing, walking, using hands, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs, working above ground at heights of minimum 50 feet, working in confined spaces, exposure to extreme heat and cold, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment includes risk of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, noise, etc. Compliance with safety procedures mandatory.
