Pipe Welder Supervisor in Allanton

Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in the installation and assembly of piping for various systems. Work with other crafts as instructed by supervision.

Core Responsibilities

• Regular attendance at work and ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends and holidays.
• Comply with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations and policies while performing duties.
• Assign work on multiple assignments during a workday and monitor progress aboard marine vessels.
• Monitor work performances and productivity, and assist in meeting production goals.
• Manage employees and plan ahead to have their crew work safely.
• Identify and correct poor welding practices that generate excessive rework and scrap.
• Flag cranes, calculate weights, and rig all types of lifts.
• Inspect welds for compliance with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) specifications.
• Assist in troubleshooting piping systems and conduct diagnosis to identify and fix pipe problems.
• Ensure that all welding inspection tasks are performed.
• Input time on a computer and set up and execute QA call outs.
• Work with minimal supervision.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Directly and/or indirectly supervise and/or train subordinates assigned to the crew.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED equivalence plus one to three years’ previous shipyard experience required.
• One to three years supervisory experience desired.
• One to three years experience welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and/or aluminum in the shipbuilding industry required.
• Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and ABS regulations.
• Must pass welding tests to be ABS Certified.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms or plans.
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
• Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees.
• Basic arithmetic: add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure.
• Read a tape measure accurately.
• Excellent communication skills.

Physical Demands

The position requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms. The employee must lift or move up to 50 pounds, work at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft, and work in confined spaces while subject to extreme heat and cold. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required protective equipment as prescribed under OSHA standards.

Work Environment

Primary duties are performed in a heavy industrial shipyard environment with risks of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, continual loud noise, and other hazards. Rigorous compliance with safety procedures, policies, and personal safety equipment requirements is mandatory.
