Assists production in various aspects such as loading and unloading material onto or off automated blast and panel line, CNC plasma machine, press brake, or other ancillary production equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends and holidays.
  • Inspect and operate equipment daily.
  • Unload and load materials on trucks.
  • Inspect material received and finished products.
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklift, and loader while moving unfinished and finished material.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus working knowledge of operating overhead cranes and other mechanical equipment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from employees.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to read a tape measure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The role involves lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Additional physical requirements include working at heights of a minimum of 50 feet, in confined spaces, and enduring extreme heat/cold conditions. Vision requirements include close, distance, colour, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment per OSHA standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work occurs in a heavy industrial shipyard environment with exposure to electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, continuous loud noise, and other hazards. Rigorous compliance with safety procedures, policies, and personal safety equipment requirements is mandatory.
