The Opportunity

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Reading Leader to join our dedicated team. This exciting new role at King’s Lynn Academy has two main responsibilities.

  • To establish a strong culture of reading across the academy, encouraging all pupils to recognise the value and joys of reading. This includes overseeing a welcoming and well-resourced library at the heart of the school, leading a range of opportunities for pupils to positively engage with reading, promoting competitions to incentivise and reward reading, organising events to celebrate a diverse range of interesting stories, and fostering partnerships with relevant organisations in the wider community to further pupils’ experience of reading.
  • To coordinate programmes to improve pupils’ reading proficiency, involving the administration of testing, analysis of results, and planning tailored interventions to effectively target pupils’ needs and develop their reading skills. This work will contribute to the academy’s broader ambition of ensuring all pupils are able to read to the expected standard of their age and fully access the world around them.

The Reading Leader will work in collaboration with colleagues across the school, such as the Head of English, to meet these responsibilities.

About You

  • Qualified to Level 2 English and Maths (GCSE A-C or equivalent)
  • Relevant course to support learning e.g. NVQ3 relevant library and information qualifications or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in the operation of organisational and administrative procedures including excellent ICT skills
  • Proven experience working in an educational environment
  • Previous experience working with students and meeting their particular needs and requirements
  • Flexible and adaptable to undertake varied duties
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Ability to relate to different ages and abilities
