Overview

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will act as a subject matter expert, guiding geotechnical design and assurance across the project lifecycle. You will ensure designs meet standards and integrate with other engineering disciplines to support safe, high-quality delivery. Your role includes mentoring engineers, solving complex technical issues, and maintaining cost-conscious decisions to protect taxpayer value. This position sits within the Technical function, contributing to the scheme’s standards, requirements, and delivery. You will help shape the geotechnical aspects of East West Rail and contribute to a transformational infrastructure programme.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert in geotechnical engineering, providing technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle
  • Oversee planning, execution and monitoring of engineering work to meet quality, safety and performance standards
  • Collaborate with other project teams and stakeholders to achieve seamless cross-discipline delivery
  • Resolve complex technical issues with innovative solutions
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations and good practice
  • Share technical knowledge and mentor other engineers, promoting continuous learning
  • Take responsibility for health and safety in line with EWR principles
  • Maintain a cost-conscious mindset in decision-making and resource use
  • Act as a role model for EWR's vision and Ways of Working, encouraging others

Key requirements

  • Background in geotechnical engineering on infrastructure projects
  • Ability to solve problems and develop innovative technical solutions
  • Experience within the railway sector (desirable)
  • Authority to Work in a relevant specialist discipline (desirable)
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent experience (desirable)
  • Collaborative mindset
