Overview

In this role you will act as a specialist for building and stations architecture within the East West Rail programme, guiding design and delivery of station buildings and related spaces. You will champion placemaking and design quality while ensuring operations, commercial needs and customer requirements are met. You’ll integrate architecture with civils, rail systems, and delivery teams to enable seamless project execution. Your work supports safe, compliant, high-quality infrastructure that serves communities along the route. This is a chance to shape value, safety and aesthetics across a major rail project.

Responsibilities

  • Assure that the Principal Designer fulfils CDM 2015 duties across architectural and design disciplines
  • Support the Head of Engineering in fulfilling NEC-based Supervisor duties for architectural disciplines
  • Serve as subject matter expert in engineering, guiding the project lifecycle
  • Oversee planning, execution and monitoring of engineering work to meet quality, safety and performance standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve integrated delivery across disciplines
  • Resolve complex technical issues with creative, effective solutions
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations and best practice
  • Share knowledge and mentor engineers to foster continuous improvement
  • Uphold health and safety principles and maintain cost-conscious decision making
  • Model and promote EWR Co's Ways of Working and behaviours

Key requirements

  • Background in engineering and placemaking on infrastructure projects (stations buildings, civils, structures, station systems, electrification or signalling)
  • Expertise in one or more engineering disciplines with solid technical principles and standards
  • Ability to solve problems and develop innovative technical solutions
  • Desirable: experience within the railway sector
  • Desirable: authority to work in a relevant specialist discipline
  • Desirable: chartership in a PLACE discipline (Planning, Landscape, Architecture, Conservation or Engineering) or equivalent experience
  • Collaborative mindset and cross-functional teamwork
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Mentoring and knowledge sharing
  • Engineering discipline expertise with deep understanding of technical principles
  • Placemaking and architecture for infrastructure projects, including station buildings
  • Experience with industry standards and regulations (CDM 2015, NEC contracts)
