The role is the senior lead position to deliver our health and safety agenda, which impacts on every aspect of the business. This is articulated through our 5-year business plan which is set and approved by the Directors and Shareholders, in line with our aspirations to be market leader. Evidence of a positive safety culture is a fundamental success factor for this post.
As the principal advisor to the Directors and shareholders on H&S matters, there will be a priority to co-ordinate the activities of all employee’s compliance duties, oversee the translation of strategy into a comprehensive set of objectives with a strong focus on delivery. By collaborating with a range of senior managers, across different technical departments (Projects, Commercial, HR, Mechanical, Electrical, Building, Fire and Security) the role will seek to maximise H&S performance, quality planning and reporting. As a trusted source of technical information, it is vital that all levels of the business are coached, instructed and trained – this role will set the benchmark for all H&S standards.
This involves working with the Head of ESG to co-ordinate the wider compliance and risk agenda, as well as the management of information through the IMS (Integrated Management System) for all ISO certification and wider industry standards. Supporting the Pre-Construction functions to develop key relationships with clients, supply chain and ensuring the best possible presentation of company H&S capability is a fundamental element of the role.

- Qualifications And Experience
- Recognised industry relevant health and safety qualifications e.g. NEBOSH general certificate, Construction and/or fire safety. (E)
- Accredited by a recognised industry body e.g. IOSH to at least Certified Level with full CPD records. (E)
- Extensive experience of supporting and advising Board and senior management on audit, risk and governance matters gained within a regulated environment. (E)
- Experience and understanding of complex investigations, including working with government agencies e.g. the Health and Safety Executive. (E)
- Proven experience in the design and delivery of quality management systems and third-party accreditations. (E)
- A track record of design and delivery of professional, technical and industry recognised training programmes. (E)
- Proven experience (more than 5 years) in the application of the Construction (Design and Management) Regs 2015 as part of project delivery. (E)
- Lead Auditor qualifications relevant to 9001, 14001 and/or 45001 standards. (D)
- Competence in BSA2022 dutyholder roles (Principal Designer / Contractor). (D)
- Integration of reactive maintenance risk into H&S strategy. (D)

Duties
- Advise on all areas of legal and statutory reporting e.g. health, safety and environmental legislation, and liaise with other legal professionals on matters such as contracts and company law to ensure effective risk management.
- Oversee the effective operation of the Health and Safety elements of the Integrated Management System (IMS).
- Ensure the company meets all its H&S requirements for industry certification as requested by the Managing Director and/or Shareholders.
- Work with technical leads (e.g. Gas, Mechanical, Electrical) to ensure high quality safe systems of work are adopted across the workforce.
- Ensure accurate and timely reports are provided to the Directors, Managing Director and Shareholders detailing all elements of performance within the scope of the role.
- Produce strategic documents which align to the demands of the 5-year business plan.
- To oversee all investigations required in the business.
- To audit and evidence company practices, delivering continuous improvement across the compliance functions.
- Act as a champion of compliance, reinforce health, safety and welfare at all times and support colleagues across the business to meet the standards expected.
