This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Clinical and Operational Lead for Speech and Language Therapy, taking a lead role in the development of Speech and Language Therapy services and its delivery within the financial resources attributed to the service.

Main duties of the job:

  • Day to day responsibility for running the service and the management, development and supervision of the team.
  • Lead on speech and language therapy and dysphagia in the Organisation.
  • Work closely with the Head of AHPs, General Manager and the Assistant Director of AHPs and AHP professional leads to develop the AHP professions.
  • Assess, diagnose and treat clients referred to the Speech and Language Therapy service within your area of speciality.
  • Provide professional advice for Speech and Language Therapists and external partners across the trust.
  • Take a lead on clinical governance, policy and priority setting, service developments and carrying out audit and research projects within the service.
  • Ensure the delivery of specialist training packages and resources for Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals.
  • Develop informal partnership/collaborative arrangements with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals on the management of patients.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Essential: BSc or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy, HCPC registered, Higher level qualification at Masters level or equivalent training and CPD/PDP portfolio.
  • Desirable: Experience and/or understanding of the wider health economy, Experience of operating in and delivering priorities in a partnership environment.

Experience:

  • Essential: Significant amount of post registration experience, Four years experience within specialist clinical area.
  • Desirable: Extended scope practice skills.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Essential: Demonstrate holistic and strategic knowledge of specialist clinical area with broad knowledge of all practices within profession/service area.
  • Person/patient centred approach.
  • Awareness of National NHS policies and strategies including clinical governance, evidence based practice, NHS plan, NSF's etc.
  • Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice.
  • Highest level of clinical assessment, treatment and judgement.
  • Therapeutic handling skills, including use of manual handling equipment.
  • Developed dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment.
  • Good interpersonal skills, particularly where there are complex family dynamics or distressing situations.
  • Health, safety and risk awareness.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Excellent leadership qualities.

Desirable: Experience in a lead role or managerial responsibility.
