Day Crewed (all rank roles) and Service Training Centre Pool Various Stations. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is committed to keeping our communities safer, and we need exceptional people to help us do that. Our Service is undergoing a significant period of change designed to improve efficiency, further empower managers and allow us to better support the communities we serve.
We have substantive roles at Firefighter, Crew Manager and Watch Manager roles at Newhaven, Lewes, Crowborough, Battle, Uckfield and Service Training Centre. At this time we cannot accept applications from people wishing to move between Service Training Centre and Day Crewed Duty System and vice versa.
To be eligible to apply for the Day Crewed and Service Training Centre Pool, you will need to demonstrate that you are a substantive and competent Firefighter, Crew Manager or Watch Manager in line with the guidance document which is attached to the application process.
Please note that to apply for this pool you must be able to provide cover for the full day crewed duty system at the Station you are applying to which includes being able to mobilise and respond from an address that is within a 5-minute response time of the Station, (outside of the day duty period). If successful you will be required to train on any specialisms held at the Station.
Day Crewed posts will attract the East Sussex Day Crewed Allowance in accordance with the Day Crewed Policy. Please be advised that this application process is for the Day Crewed Duty System (all rank roles) and Service Training Centre Pool only and will not gain access to the wider Firefighter, Crew Manager or Watch Manager pool.
All applicants through this process must evidence that they are maintaining their skills, knowledge and understanding in accordance with the Firefighter Operational Competency Framework (FOCF). The responsibility to ensure this is up to date lies with the applicant and any appeals following shortlisting will not be accepted where this has not been done.
Colleagues who are unable to evidence their competency due to exceptional circumstances will have the opportunity to explain the reasons during the application process. If this is not done during the application process, an appeal on this basis will not be accepted.

All roles at East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service will be subject to either DBS checks (minimum standard level) or a Police vetting process (the latter for roles based at Joint Headquarters in Lewes). The check will take place for the preferred candidate at the end of the selection process, before a final offer of employment can be made.
