Interviews w/c 15 June 2026

We are looking for a flexible and skilled classroom practitioner with sound knowledge of adapting teaching in class to meet a range of needs. St Michael’s is a small rural community school. We aim to recruit hardworking, dedicated teachers who are passionate about making a difference to children’s lives, people who challenge themselves to keep on improving. This means our working relationships can be relatively relaxed and informal. People love working at St Michael’s; we are warm, welcoming, positive, supportive and always looking forward with the other community schools we regularly collaborate with. You will have to work hard but only on the things that make a difference to the children we teach and nurture. You will be joining a small team that makes the best use of our environment to ensure high quality learning outcomes.

As a community school (we are not a Church of England School) we have pupils from the village of Withyham and the surrounding area (20 minutes away from Tunbridge Wells). All are welcome including those with a faith and those with none. We work together to foster children who are academically successful as well as compassionate, curious and collaborative.

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Has a proven record of success and expertise in empowering children to make rapid progress in previous posts or on teaching practice.
  • Demonstrates optimism about children and expects the highest possible learning standards from all.
  • Nurtures pupils’ emotional wellbeing to ensure successful educational outcomes.

We offer you:

  • Sensible and successful systems, based on research, with a commitment to reduce workload.
  • Carefully targeted training to help grow your teaching skills.
  • A positive, warm and welcoming working environment.
  • Experienced, intelligent, lively colleagues and fantastic rural location in Sussex.

Interviews will be held week commencing Monday 15 June 2026. Visits to the school are strongly recommended and can be arranged via Ms D Udell on 01892 770307 or by emailing office@st-michaels.e-sussex.sch.uk. This is also the e-mail address to contact if you would like an application pack. We reserve the right to close the selection process early.

St Michael’s Primary School is committed to safeguarding all children. Successful candidates will require a DBS clearance and suitable references before commencing employment. We welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age.

This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2018. The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2018 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision. Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2018 Regulations. If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2018 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.
